    Aid to Afghanistan?
Can anyone find out what the U.S.'s real demands were, to Pakistan, concerning aid?

to aid or not to aid
The U.S. has ordered Pakistan to end humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. Is this detrimental to our cause? Aside from the fact that starving millions of innocent people to death is wrong, isn't threat of starvation, caused by the U.S., going to attract even more angry, desperate people to their cause?

    Should aid continue?

In a conventional war, once the killing begins, the enemy is fully committed to your destruction, so there's no need to worry about further antagonizing him.

Since counterterrorism is the job of intelligence, should we leave the military out of it, and merely step up our counterterrorism efforts?

can't we all just get along?
What long term suggestions do you have for getting the people of the world to stop hating the U.S. and the western world?

    Keep in mind two factors.

    1. We do bad things.

    2. Their own governments push this view on them.

    we can make a difference
The question put to us right now, is can we come up with any kind of solution.

I have no doubt that we (here, right now) can make a difference. This LiveJournal community has tens of thousands of users. If we could put our suggestions into petition form, and get our friends to put their names on it and e-mail it directly to their representatives, we could make a difference. Not only our LJ friends, but the rest of our IRL friends. And many of us are members of other online communities.

    aftermath
It sounds like we will attack the Taliban. What happens after that? Do we just pull out and leave Afghanistan in ruins? Do we stay there to help the rightful rulers get their government going again? Are they still there to be helped?

Tangent: If we put a democracy in place, how long would it be before someone took over who would become a despot who kept control of the country by force?

By far, the strongest sentiment is "bomb the shit out of them."

    The question is, attack who?

The next question is, what do we do then?

    causes
To figure out how to solve the problem, we need to understand what the problem is and its causes. Let's talk about the root causes.

There are many events and ongoing concerns that contribute to the problem of global terrorism.

Please keep in mind that many of these contributing factors are the things the U.S. has done that people of other nations view as wrong. It is no secret that Americans are seen as evil, nor is it a secret that they have perpetrated many wrongs on those foreigners, but you must keep in mind that this forum is not to place blame on Americans, it is to bring these evils into the light, so that they do not continue.

With that said, please don't limit your comments to the ills of U.S. foreign policy.

    the primary issue
What scares most of us, is that if we attack Osama bin Laden (or whomever is responsible), we will continue to appear as evil. This combined with bin Laden's martyrdom, will steel the resolve of the other terrorists. Violence breeds violence.

What other options do we have?

First of all, it isn't an all or nothing proposition. We are not limited to only two options - attack or not attack. We can't - and more importantly, won't - walk away from this affront. But just as importantly, we can't simply attack the terrorists and walk away. There's more to it than that.

What must be done to prevent the escalation of the terrorism? That is the foremost question.

    You can help
The world needs your help. This journal was founded on the premise that every little bit helps. Every thought counts. Please help.

The people in power right now hold the future in their hands. they need help. They know this. There is no one person, sitting in an office, thinking, "I know what has to be done, like nobody else." Think about it, they are politicians. The government is a committee. Few of them want to make a move without a consensus.

What does this have to do with you? They will listen. We can take these thoughts to our leaders.

The future hangs in the balance.
